The unexpected arrival of a legacy from a friend prompts photographer Robert Garfield (David Morse) to recall the summer he turned eleven. In spite of his cold, remote mother, the local bullies, and a longing to know more about the father who died when he was six, Bobby shared a remarkable, luminescent summer with his best friends Carol and Sully and a mysterious stranger named Ted (Anthony Hopkins) who became Bobby's friend and showed him how to embrace life fearlessly.
