Institution for criminally insane helps actor research his role

BYLINE: Marilyn Beck;Stacy Jenel Smith

Actor David Morse really got into his role as the psychotic kidnapper in NBC's upcoming fact-based teledrama Cry in the Wild: The Taking of Peggy Ann Bradnick.

"My character was a man who spent his life in jails and institutions for the criminally insane -- so I spent a little time at an institution for the criminally insane to get a feel of what his life was like," he reports.

The telepic tells the tale of the 1966 kidnapping of Peggy Ann Bradnick (actress Megan Follows) that resulted in one of the most massive manhunts in FBI history. The teen-ager was relentlessly dragged through the Pennsylvania backwoods during her eight-day ordeal of terror. Morse, who recently wrapped Sean Penn's Indian Runner feature, says the action, "was a lot more taxing on Megan than me -- but she was a great sport. "
